Minna (they/them) is a Minneapolis-based writer, digital media producer, and researcher. Their music writing has appeared in Pitchfork, MTV, The FADER, SPIN, Noisey, among others. They DJ and host MSG Radio every Thursday 10AM-12PM CT on KFAI 90.3 FM. When they're able, they make art at @artbyshimpchips.
In the 2010s, Minna interned with American RadioWorks, now APM Reports, the audio documentary unit of American Public Media. Before that, they conducted sociolinguistics fieldwork as a Fulbright Fellow to Senegal. During that time, they documented an emergent pidgin language used by Chinese and West African merchants in Dakar, which they called Centenaire Pidgin.
In their university days, Minna music directed, produced, and DJ'd for Continental Drift on WNUR 89.3 FM Evanston-Chicago. With Drift, they re/initiated numerous partnerships with other music entities in the Chicagoland area and around the world, including with venues, artists, and record labels. In 2011, they interned with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. They graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Linguistics and Creative Writing-Poetry.
